Amsterdam
4 days only. That is all I was able to spend in Amsterdam, in October 2018 when I discover the city for the first time with my wife.
I did not expect anything in particular except a little rest in a city that I did not know yet. And apart from the “bike city and canals” cliché, which I nevertheless really wanted to photograph, I had no idea what I could find there.
However, as soon as we arrived, I understood that I was going to like it a lot. I found this city very welcoming, and warm, even though the good weather was not really there. But actually, the rain was a perfect pretext for us to take refuge in cafes, to visit museums and to find very good addresses here and there. I will still remember those times for many years to come. I am sure you know those moments which are so simple, but which mean a lot.
This city was a big crush for both of us and I still have a very special attachment to Amsterdam to this day, which I can’t wait to visit again, with my camera in the hand. I especially took advantage of my stay to take a break, but I was able to take some pictures during these 4 days. You will find the best of them below.
Despite wonderful memories, I still have a little feeling of frustration on the photographic level. The frustration of not being able to capture more scenes, because I found Amsterdam to be a great playground for street photography. Maybe I will have more opportunities next time, and even if I do not, I am sure I will still enjoy a lot the time I will spend there.
“You fill up the frame with feelings, energy, discovery, and risk, and leave room enough for someone else to get in there.”
