Santorini
August 2019, arrival in Santorini. I was going to live 10 days in which the beauty of the places I visited will remain in my mind forever.
By the beauty of its sunsets, the silent force of its volcano, the special charm of its streets and the unique blue of its houses, I came back with magnificent images in my eyes and in my camera. As well as incredible memories in the heart.
I was looking forward to have the ability to visit Santorini, which despite being a very touristy island for many years, has seen its notoriety growing so much lately. And once there, I very quickly understood why. It was the first Greek island I visited, and I was speechless. Between sky and sea, all the small villages and the local culture that I found matched perfectly with my style of photography and the stories I use to tell. Santorini, all in height, allows to rise above the sea and its volcano, which seems to be so calm but which undoubtedly have an incredible power resting inside.
I will remember having walked on this volcano, I will remember the heat given off by its rocks, I will remember the flagship cities of Santorini like Oia or Fira, but also smaller villages like Emporio, less popular but so special and relaxing. Of course, I will remember its sunsets, and the crowds who admire them. But having sometimes woke up very early, I will also remember its sunrises, its empty tiny streets, with only one or two passengers who sometimes became the subject of my photographs. You will find all these memories below, at least for the ones that I knew best how to photograph. And I hope that these photos will give you the desire to travel or re-visit Santorini, which is and will remain without a single doubt of the most beautiful places that I would have visited in my life.
“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.”
